Crom is situated on the shores of lough Erne, in County Fermanagh which is still a relatively undiscovered part of Ireland. The lough sits at the heart of the county, and indeed covers a third of the area. The tranquil 2,000 acre estate is made up of tranquil islands and ancient woodlands. One of Ireland’s most important conservation areas, the landscape of Crom is home to a wealth of wildlife including beautiful butterflies, wild deer and the elusive pine marten.
Crom Castle has been the historic seat of the Earls of Erne for over 350 years. It combines elegance with a relaxed ambience to ensure you never want to leave!
In a nutshell:
Crom Castle has been the historic seat of the Earls of Erne for over 350 years, set in rolling parkland amongst the wooded islands and peninsulas of the tranquil Upper Lough Erne.
Where the story begins:
Encompassing two castles within 1,900 acres of parkland, the landscape is surrounded by the glistening waters of Lough Erne, which now forms one of the longest inland waterways in Europe. Dotted with a myriad of mysterious islands, the lake is timeless and peaceful.
The present Crom Castle stands on elevated parkland. Built for the third Earl of Erne in the 1830s, it was designed by the English architect Edward Blore, who was responsible for sections of Buckingham Palace.
The Irish home of Lord Erne exudes all the charm of a personal residence, whilst offering modern facilities in line with its five-star accreditation. The vast estate is managed by the National Trust and is one of Ireland’s most important conservation areas. You can fully experience the magic of this sublimely beautiful location by staying in the West Wing of Crom Castle.
Where we are in the world:
In rolling green countryside, Crom Castle is approximately 90 miles north of Dublin and Dublin International Airport and 85 miles south west of Belfast, Belfast City and International Airports. Escape to the shores of Upper Lough Erne at the breathtakingly beautiful Crom.
The interiors:
You can fully experience the magic of this sublimely beautiful location by staying in the West Wing of Crom Castle. It has its own entrance and terrace and offers exceptional privacy with superb views of the beautiful County Fermanagh landscape from every window. An ideal retreat from today’s busy world.
The West Wing is sold on a self-catered basis and comes with a fully-equipped modern kitchen, though outside caterers can be arranged for special occasions or, if you would prefer, the entire duration of your stay. Impeccably decorated in warm and inviting colours, the interiors are tastefully furnished in period style. The elegant west-facing Drawing Room catches the evening sun and opens onto the terrace with access to the lake beyond.
The Dining Room is situated in the castle’s former Billiard Room. Beneath the spectacular barrel-vaulted ceiling guests can dine in the utmost splendor.
Estate living:
Life at Crom Castle revolves around relaxation and savoring the vast estate where nature plays a central role. A plethora of activities can be organized including Archery, Falconry, Pike fishing on Lough Erne, clay-pigeon shooting, guided tours of the castle with The Earl of Erne, horse riding and many more. Rest your head:
Each of the bedrooms is uniquely decorated in sumptuous style. The seven individually-designed bedrooms consist of one four-poster bedroom, two super-king sleigh bedrooms, three twin bedrooms (one which can be changed to a super king should it be required) and one single bedroom.
